We were created for a single purpose, to glorify God through a relationship with Him. We broke that relationship by rejecting His authority and role in the relationship and seeking to elevate ourselves to be like Him.
Ever since that first broken relationship, mankind has been broken, sinful, and lost. Through our own actions, we became unrighteous sinners, unable to stand in proper relationship with a perfect and Holy God or we would be destroyed by His perfection.
Unable to restore ourselves into right standing with God, we have been fated to die and be separated from our Creator, and this is the terrible plight of mankind. We sought to elevate ourselves to be likeHim, instead of living in our proper place withHim. We needed a savior, and the one that God promised to send was our only Hope.
God is a promise maker and a promise keeper. He promised to send us a savior, one who would be able to live in right standing with Him, one who would be fully God and fully Man, one who would be a King whose Kingdom would last forever, one who would take on the suffering of the world, one who would be tortured and killed for our sins, one who would defeat death and rise again, one who would invite us into the family of God, and one who would give us His righteousness.
And God fulfilled His promises. Several thousand years ago, He sent a child, His son, Emmanuel, the promised savior. The savior was born in the most ordinary place, to ordinary people, in humility and pain, while elsewhere Angels shouted about His glory to the world. He lived a perfect life, died a painful death taking on the sins of the world, and rose again to life. He covered the sins of many with His righteousness, creating a family, a kingdom out of the wretched sinners of the world.
Let me tell you who this savior is because He is the only way to salvation. The bible says in Acts 4:10-12:
let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him, this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus[a] is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.[b] 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men[c] by which we must be saved.”
Jesus is the only way to salvation, the one who defeated death and brought life to those who believe in Him.
Church, come and celebrate the birth of Jesus today with us as we eagerly wait for Him to return once again. We celebrate to remind ourselves that He came once, and He is coming again. We celebrate to remind ourselves to make ready for His return. Hear the words of Revelation 19:6-8 and let us make ready as the Bride for His return:
6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
8 it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
